GA16: Culturally Responsive Teaching and ACC Resources

“Culturally responsive pedagogy is a student-centered approach to teaching in which the students’ unique cultural strengths are identified and nurtured to promote student achievement and a sense of well-being about the student’s cultural place in the world. Culturally responsive pedagogy is divided into three functional dimensions: the institutional dimension, the personal dimension, and the instructional dimension.” - Matthew Lynch, Ed.D.
Participants of the workshop will walk away with an understanding of what CRT is, ways to become culturally responsive on a personal level, how to implement aspects of CRT into their classroom, and what ACC is doing at the Institutional level to nurture each students unique cultural strengths.
Kathleen Serra is the Instructional Designer at the Rio Grande campus. She has been teaching online and face-to-face classes for over ten years and enjoys researching and presenting on the topics of Culturally Responsive Teaching and Hybrid Courses. Most recently, she has presented at the following conferences: Culturally Responsive Teaching conference in Baltimore, MD, the Northwest eLearning conference in Portland Oregon and FETC (Florida educational technology conference). Kathleen holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Technology from Rollin's College in Winter Park, FL and a Bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. |
