SSD18: Incorporating Open Educational Resources (OER) into your curriculum: The What, Where, and How.

Hours: 1.25

Open Educational Resources (OER) are free learning resources that increase faculty options and decrease student textbook costs. ACC offers over 200 OER sections and this initiative has already saved students thousands of dollars. But what exactly is an OER course? How can you incorporate OER into your curriculum in a way that helps you and your students? This workshop will give a brief overview of OER and discuss the multiple resources available to help adopt and adapt OER into your course.

Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of where to find OER in their areas of interest, how to use those resources, and who at ACC can assist with the adoption of OER. For those who don't currently teach, this presentation will show you where to find the vast amount of educational resources available for free to everyone with a computer or phone.

Carrie Gits the Head Librarian at Highland & Rio Grande Campus Libraries, developed an OER LibGuide for faculty, and served on the THECB’s Negotiated Rulemaking Committee on OER and as a stakeholder in feasibility of a statewide OER repository. Dr. Marian Moore is an Instructional Designer at Cypress Campus with experience designing courses and the OER liaison for the Office of Faculty and Instructional Development. Ursula Pike is the Coordinator of Instructional Initiatives and makes sure students are aware of the OER options available to them.
