SSD18: Engaging Students Through Blogging: Wading into Web 2.0

Hours: 1.25

Do your students complete the assigned reading before class? Are they ready to utilize and discuss the material? Assigning students to post reader response blogs prior to class helps create community while ensuring that most students engage in the deep reading necessary for a meaningful discussion.

Participant Benefit:
1. A rationale for incorporating blogs into college courses
2. Ideas for creating a blog space for students via Blackboard
3. Resources for further exploring the use of blog in college courses
4. Rubrics for evaluating student blog postings
