SDD18: Micromessaging to Reach and Teach all Students, Learning from the ACCelerator Cohort

What are Micromessages and how do they impact our students?
Learn more about Micromessaging from the multidisciplinary ACCelerator cohort involved in the NAPE EESTEM grant.
In this session, Faculty will learn how to use super strategies in the classroom to improve the Micromessages they send students to increase student success through educational equity.

Skye Howell is an Equity and Inclusion Associate with the Office of Equity and Inclusion. She is also the Faculty Coordinator for the Education Area of Study and an Adjunct Professor in the Student Development and Human Services departments for Austin Community College. Skye received her graduate degree in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity from the University of Colorado- Boulder and her undergraduate degree in Recreation Therapy at Texas State University. Her teaching philosophy is to prioritize equitable student opportunities, implement a culturally responsive pedagogy and encourage student development through self-efficacy using a servant leadership approach. She and her colleagues Amardeep Kahlon, Amy Velchoff, Gabriel Arellano, Herb Coleman and Lendell Hawley will share experiences and insights from the participation in the NAPE EESTEM Academy.
