SDD18: Putting Students in the Driver Seats

Hours: 1.3

Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.
-Chinese Proverb

As instructors in face-to-face courses, most of us feel the pressure to compete with engaging multimedia that most of our students have grown used to: gossips on social media, interactive video games or funny YouTube videos. The million-dollar question that always haunts me is how to help my students learn yet also make learning fun and engaging at the same time. I am sure most of you will agree that active learning is the way to go, but how exactly do we introduce that to our students? In this session, we will “experience” a few ideas that are already proven to work for our faculty members. After each demo, we will have a brief discussion on why they work. We will also provide opportunities for you to share your ideas. We will close this session with more useful resources that you can add to your repertoire.

The main take away of this session will be the proven and tested ideas that you can implement immediately into your face-to-face courses. This is also a great opportunity for you to network and learn from your peers. You will also have access to the additional resources that I am going to share with you.
