Item # 3:
Technical Standards for PFT program
On March 31, 2009, Pam Soto contacted the PFT advisory board members by email to address the final draft of the Technical Standards for the Personal Fitness Trainer program. All eleven committee members were contacted, including a new member as of 2008-2009. Six responded with approval. The remaining 5 did not respond. The draft was officially accepted as written and became program material to share with individuals interested in entering the program.
The topic of technical standards had been discussed in the prior annual meeting held November of 2007-2008. For this December meeting, Pam Soto revisited the technical standards with the members for additional input. The advisory board members had no additional input regarding the technical standards and unanimously reaffirmed to accept the technical standards as written.
Pam Soto presented a PowerPoint overview of a Personal Fitness Trainer program survey that she collected from current and prospective PFT students. Pam Soto commented her findings from the survey as showing that students are interested in the program but still the completion rate shows to be low. She asked that the advisory board members review the survey and opened discussion regarding the results from the survey. The advisory board members discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the program. The members discussed the possibility of offering some of the courses in the program as Hybrid courses. Pam Soto said she will take their comments into consideration and will try to implement their suggestions into the program this year.
Paul Smith had several program suggestions. He spoke about resurrecting some of the CE courses to provide more exposure to the program. Paul Smith also had discussion about student testing and preparation. It is decided that after students complete the PFT program, they should be able to sit and pass the NSCA and ACSM, national certification exams.
