Sandra reminded the group that Hill Country Memorial Hospital pursued ACC regarding starting a nursing program in Fredericksburg and that it was important that the community continues to support the nursing programs offered.
Gina Enderlin, Nurse Educator with Hill Country Memorial expressed that the hospital still supports the program, but that Schreiner Universities BSN program is also doing clinical at the hospital. While the hospital is not hiring LVN's, clinics associated with the hospital are and LVN's can also be hired as nursing techs until they obtain their ADN degree. She stated it would be very beneficial if we could also include EKG training in the LVN program. She stated she would get with Sandra and/or the Fredericksburg faculty to work with them regarding ideas that would make the LVN's more viable in the workforce at the hospital until they could earn their ADN and BSN degree.
Eric Jepson, Director of Laboratory Services with Hill Country Memorial shared the need of more lab techs at the hospital. There was a lengthy discussion about possibly including training for lab techs in the VNSG program or possibly offering a Lab Tech program in Fredericksburg.
