Seton: S. Forster reported on the Center of Excellent. We are starting with perinatal to get our areas placed accurately. All of Brackenridge's Women's services in this area has been moved over to ______________ Dr. Amy Young will be over women's services for the Dell Medical Center.
The Seton Medical Center at the UT, this hospital will open May 21, 2017. 60 beds will be universal. Care service meaning that services would come to the patient vs the patient being moved to different units.
In our clinical education department, our Seton Residency program was recently accredited. Specialty areas being offered in specific areas will be the wave of the future in many hospitals
St. David's: St. David's will hire 300 new graduates this years. We are just finishing our winter residence for new graduate. We are outgrowing all of our classrooms. We have hired many new ACC Graduates.
Expanding PEDI Hospital at NAMC, Trauma designation for South Austin Hospital. Expanded some ICU beds.
Central Texas Medical Center: Pam Foster reported that CTMC has had lot of changes over the last year. We are in the middle of remodeling the older section of the hospital. We are welcoming a new CEO-Elsie Grace from San Antonio.
We have an ongoing Preceptor program.
Scott and White Healthcare: No Representation
University of Texas: Lots of changes on our graduate program, students will be admitted to one of the advanced practice roles or LEADS for roles in leadership. The focus is shifting, and students will get through in a shorter amount of time.
The Nursing school living in the middle of a construction zone has been very stressful. We've had a little bit of attrition once students start their nursing courses because they decide they don't like being a nurse.
Our RN-BSN program has lots of competition in the area so our numbers of decrease.
We've started a PHD in nursing program which is being offered as a HYBRID program.
We know longer have an RN, MSN program, students just have to have a bachelor's degree is something else to get start our MSN program.
Rehabilitation Hospitals:
Cornerstone-Round Rock:
Health South: Bradley Dinsmore-CNO reported the HS, acquired Reliant Hospital last year with a location north and south. We currently have about 30 open positions.
Health South has rehabilitation services for Amputees and Oncology. We are looking to hire certified oncology nurses to be able to administer chemo on site.
In North Austin we have a Skilled Nursing Unit within the hospital. We have great things going on, we are currently working to gain joint commission status.
Long Term Care:
Buckner Villa: No Representation
Heritage Park: Heritage Park came under new management in February 16. We have started renovations to older parts of the facility.
Westminster Manor: Running as we always have, working with CMS to gain five star rating. We must have a certain number of RN on the floor in order to keep our rating high.
Anti-Psychotic Reduction numbers-we must only have 9-10% of patients on those drugs. This is also being required of hospice going forward. We are moving more toward patient centered care. We must look for the cause of the behavior vs just medicating the patient to get past the issue. April 2016 they will start PPJ, upload hours to the minute of each Aide, LVN, RN etc.
Your reimbursement will be based on the number of RN's on the floor. If you're going to do Ltech you must have an RN on the floor 24 hours a day.
Pat Recek asked if those guidelines will be on the CMS website? Kevin Gluch responded that all of the criteria and requirements are outlined on the CMS website.
CHOSEN Healthcare: We have two facilities in the Austin Area, we are experiencing some growing pains, we were previously known as Pflugerville Care Center.
Reliant Hospital: No representation
Austin State Hospital: No representation
Austin State Supported Living Center: No representation

For chronic care patients who are release we are working with the Travis County EMS to follow those inmate/patients once they are release
Dell Valley Jail: We have many diabetic and hyper tensive patients/inmates. We hire both LVN and RN's.
Austin Regional Clinic-Brittany reported that at the clinics we love having the students in our facilities and we look forward to hiring many new LVN in the near future. We are opening many new locations. Primarily we hire RN's into nurse navigator and nurse managers positions
Item # 4:
College Updated
Presenter
Patricia Recek, Exec. Dean of Health Sciences
Discussion
P. Recek reported she is excited that so much growth is happening in our community. ACC is in the middle of constant change, we are moving towards Guided Pathways for students, with designated areas of study for students to select with Health Sciences being one of those. Right now the focus is on those first time college students who have less than 12 hours of college. We will have specific counselors and advising for specific areas of study. Beginning this summer will be begin areas of study orientation programs.
In HS, our programs continue to do their excellent work. We have been doing a pilot with high school health science programs. This would allow high school students to graduate from HS with an Associate Degree. We are in the process of getting a building near the Eastview Campus for high school academy students starting with two programs Phlebotomy and the Pharmacy Tech. Programs. This would be a stackable certificate that will work with the LVN, RN or other HS programs. If we get the new building, we will add EMT basic to the mix for HS Students.
We are looking at about 60 students with these two programs, if we add EMT, we will increase to 80-85. Our long range goal is to increase and add some of our LVN courses to the HS level students.
Pat asked the committee about regulations regarding the student ages. G. Roberts reported that the students must be 18 in order to touch a patient. They can only observe prior to that point.
S. Foster asked about a CNA program, and P. Recek stated that the C.N.A's are going through Continuing Education.
It was asked if ACC had thought about a MA program in the high schools. Pat responded that MA is through ACC's Continuing Education and are currently working with Manor ISD with this program.
BOND Update: There will be a Regional Simulation Center in the new highland building.
In Round Rock, the bond paid for a new building which will not affect us, unless there is $ left for the Bond in which will be used to help create a new simulation center.

3-semesters- Considerations/Concerns

2. Shorter program does allow for student to more rapidly progress to
ADN or BSN program.
3. Students are out into the workforce earlier.
Future Vision:
* High School to LVN-In progress of developing curriculum. Target date for implementation to be rescheduled for Fall 2017.
* Military Articulation
* Evening and weekend program
Update: (Spring 2016)
* New Changes with ACC offering of Biology: Impact on VNG Curriculum
The VNG Faculty commitment to higher education lead our current new curriculum to change once again:
Major Impact: Biology requirements-Program curriculum will now require BIOL 2401 Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology (Intro A & P)
* Advisory Committee approved of Introduction to A & P-February 11, 2016 via email.
* ACC Curriculum Committee approval-February 19, 2016.
Nan Walters notified the Committee that the BIOLOGY changes was not an ACC decision it was a Coordinator Board Mandate. We have worked very hard to make sure all students interested in coming to one of our program to make sure they not about this change.
Toni Rowen reported that a recent report of degree programs stated that Nursing is one of the most difficult degrees to obtain.
Sandra added that out of the 91 LVN programs in Texas, only 2 are nationally accredited and ACC-LVN is one of the two.

Discussion
A. The Nurse Refresher Program is designed to meet the requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing for nurses who have been out of practice for 4 or more years or have inactive licenses and are seeking to have the license renewed. The ACC program consists of three courses:
1. A 128 hour on-line didactic course 2. A 16 hour skills lab course 3. An 80 hour clinical course individually arranged with preceptors in various healthcare facilities with which ACC has contractual agreements.
B. During 2015 the 128 hour online course was completed by 84 nurses. Sixty of these were professional nurses, twenty-two were vocational nurses. Eighteen students were registered through the Virtual College of Texas, the rest were registered with ACC.
C. The skills course was completed by 43 students.
D. Twelve students completed the clinical preceptorship course this year. Many others arranged their own individual preceptorships in agencies outside the ACC service area.
E. More information about this program is available at the nurse refresher website:
F. http://nurserefresher.austincc.edu
Sandra added that we are attempting to see in using the guided pathways that the students who are taking courses through CE can move forward into credit courses for direct credit.
