2. Shorter program does allow for student to more rapidly progress to
ADN or BSN program.
3. Students are out into the workforce earlier.
Future Vision:
* High School to LVN
* Military Articulation
* Evening and weekend program
Update:
* Outcome of ACC's Vocational Nursing Program SWOT –Our office will be resending out this for your input within the next week or so.

Discussion
Yvonne VanDyke reported that at a meeting she attended this week it was suggested that Nurses create care plans for patient as they go home to insure the success of each patient's outcome.
Gail Acuna asked the schools (ACC and UT) why a lot of the new graduates do not want to go into Med-Surg, instead, most want to go straight into specialty areas. Nan added that most student don't see Med-Surg as a specialty. However, Med-Surg is a great place to get a point of reference for their transition to practice. Med-Surg is an outstanding place to learn Time-Management and prioritization skills needed to deal with higher numbers and severity of patients.
Linda Carpenter added that with UT recent curriculum change, they now have Adult Med-Surg in every semester. She suggested that students will be better grounded in all that happens in Med-Surg areas.
Pamela Foster reminded the Committee that Med-Surg nursing usually has the highest patient to nurse ratio of all the specialties. It is also important that the new nurse stays on a unit for 2-3 years.
Yvonne VanDyke interjected nursing schools only gives students a snapshot of an experience with certain types of patients. The reality is that we must get better at transitioning student nurses into experienced nurses.
Gail Acuna announced St. David's Healthcare Partnership was the recipient of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award and the leadership of St. David's Partnership will be traveling to Washington DC on Sunday to accept the award.
Pat Recek added ACC Health Sciences is planning an Open House for late Fall 2015 or early spring 2016 to allow an opportunity for interested persons to visit the Health Science programs at EVC. Please be watching for your invitation.
College Updates - Interim Executive Dean for Health Sciences –Pat Recek reported the following:
ACC Bond Proposals- Two of the bond proposals were approved, with the expansion of Highland Mall Regional Simulation Center. The proposed completion of this expansion is Fall 2019. Current plan is approximately 19000 sq feet of simulation area.
A building for Vet Tech program at the Elgin campus is planned. Expansion of the Round Rock Campus will include a general purpose classroom. The college will also be part of a First Responders Center at the Hays Campus which will be a Training Center for Emergency Management.
At the end of the Summer the FBG campus will close. The community will move to another service area if the legislation passes. The LVN cohort will graduate in May and the ADN Mobility track students in August. It is a very sad time and event for faculty and staff.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program was awarded a Coordinating Board Grant to increase the use simulation across the curriculum. Current space will be converted and redesigned at EVC to allow for a control room with a simulation room on either side to be built and redesign the Pedi/OB simulation area.
