WAC MISSION
Presenter
Theresa Harkins/Edward Terry
Discussion
Theresa and Ed reviewed the Mission of WAC. That mission is to set standards for design, content, workflow security, and documentation of any and all online services and web pages provided on any ACC website. All ACC faculty and staff should understand and agree to what is put on ACC's website and how it is used in addition to maintaining security and integrity of the web site.
ACC's website must also meet the requirements of section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. 794d). This addresses accessibility of our web pages.
This committee will also help create guidelines for using social media at ACC.
Item # 3:
STUDENT ADDRESSES IN ONLINE SERVICES
Presenter
Linda Kluck
Discussion
Linda Kluck wanted to discuss a proposal to put student addresses in Online Services. Students should be able to review their current address and be provided a link to a Student Data Change form in the event they need to update their addresses. ACC currently has a problem with student addresses when HigherOne cards are sent. Many cards are returned to HigherOne because of bad addresses. Students then have to wait a week or more to get their address corrected at ACC, sent to HigherOne and receive a new card so that they can access their Financial Aid and refund funds. Further disucssion will be made with Linda to clarify questions she has about which address will display to the student online.
Item # 4:
PROPOSED CHANGE TO WEB DOMAIN STRUCTURE
Presenter
Ed Terry
Discussion
Edward Terry asked the committee on its stance in pursuing a web server structure in which administrative, faculty and staff, and specialty websites would be regulated to different sub domains. Different polices, procedures, and standards would be applied to a website based on its classification. The issue of url structure and ease of use was brought up. Edward Terry will continue to research the benefits of moving to, or staying away from, such a structure.
Item # 5:
WHAT IS A PORTAL? DOES ACC NEED ONE?
Presenter
Theresa harkins
Discussion
Theresa, Edward, and Stan Gunn all talked about what a portal is, what it can do for ACC. A portal is a place to bring together "web parts" and display different "web parts" based on roles. Students logging in to a portal would see something different than faculty or employees would see. There are fixed parts of a portal and there are parts that are customizable to each individual to make their experience more personal and more productive. ACC needs to put other pieces of software in place before we can implement a portal. Some of those pieces are: a content management system; active directory; unified email and calendaring system, etc. This committee will begin planning out what is needed and working on implementation plans.
Item # 6:
COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT
Presenter
Theresa and Edward
Discussion
Theresa asked all committee members to search the entire ACC website and find rules, policies, procedures, guidelines, official and unofficial, that address web sites, web pages, web content, security, ethics issues, etc. Please send what you find to Theresa at harkins@austincc.edu. Theresa and Edward will compile and analyze what was found and form a plan for providing good Administrative Rules, policies, and procedures for ACC's web presence.
