Item # 1:
Review of Minutes from October meeting
Presenter
Committee
Discussion
October minutes were approved. {dm;sb}
Item # 2:
MSTA Exception vs. MSTA Senior
Presenter
Committee
Discussion
Anaka presented a draft of the AFA's proposal to replace the ''MSTA Exception'' category with ''MSTA Senior''.
The eStaffing Committee voted in favor of supporting the draft on its way to the ACAC, with the qualification that it is abstaining from that part of the draft that stipulates that 15 years of teaching at ACC is the minimum qualification to be considered an ''MSTA Senior''.
An ''HPTH Senior'' and an ''IA/CA Senior'' only require 5 years of being an HPTH or IA/CA.
Item # 3:
Demo of New Executive Module in eStaffing
Presenter
Kathy G
Discussion
Kathy demo'd the new eStaffing executive module functionality. This new version represents (a) a conversion from the ASP programming language to PHP; (b) process improvements compared to the current, original version, (c) new enhancements, and (d) integration with the Faculty modules that were converted from ASP to PHP a couple of years ago.
The development of this new version is not yet complete. A decision as to whether to release the new version in time for the Summer 2014, Fall 2014, or Spring 2015 eStaffing semester, will be determined by an evaluation of its readiness.
Department Chairs and Deans will be invited to participate in testing of the new module during the last two weeks of December and the first half of January.
Andrew, Kathy, and Sue volunteered to provide some training to interested in Department Chairs and Deans during the few days prior to the start of the Spring 2014 semester. Arrangements to do that are being pursued.
Addendum: The new version was not ready for Summer 2014 eStaffing. Due to the compression of Summer 2014 eStaffing, MSTA Processing, and Fall 2014 eStaffing into a relatively short timeframe, it is likely that the new Executive modules will be released after Fall 2014 eStaffing, but well before Spring 2015 eStaffing.
Item # 4:
Preparation for Summer 2014 eStaffing
Presenter
Committee
Discussion
Summer 2014 eStaffing is expected to go smoothly for adjunct faculty because (a) it has gone smoothly now for many semesters, and (b) there have been no changes to the Faculty modules. Given that the Executive modules may go ''live'' just prior to Summer 2014 eStaffing, there could be the need of IT support to the Department Chairs during the 3-day windows of Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Item # 5:
Preparation for MSTA & Departmental Exemption Request Season
Presenter
Committee
Discussion
The departments that have argued, and been granted approval, for exemption from using eStaffing for purposes of scheduling adjunct faculty to course sections is pretty set at this point, and will not be revisited this academic year.
For the MSTA Application process, faculty will be using the same module as was used last year. For the MSTA Assignment process, Department and Chairs will be using new screens if the Executive module is released in January as expected.
Item # 6:
Miscellaneous - Departmental Compliance Report
Presenter
Committee
Discussion
Representing the AFA, Don reiterated his support for making the Departmental Compliance Report more readily available. IT is in the process of making it available from the eStaffing application site.
