Associate Degree Nursing (Mobility) Update
Presenter
Ruthann Hoover
Discussion
Ms. Hoover began report with the introduction of Nancy (Nan) Walters as the Department Chair for the Associate Degree Nursing Program, replacing Jeanie Ward.
Current Students: Ms. Hoover reported there are currently 7 students enrolled in the ADN program; of which 2 students recently completed the ACC VNSG program in May 2009 before starting the ADN program in August 2009. The program began with 7 students; 1 student was readmitted in the 2nd semester from the previous year's program but did not successfully complete the semester. The Pinning Ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 6:30 pm in the HEB room at the new Hill Country University Center. Demographics of Class: 4 from Fredericksburg, 1 each from Austin, Llano, and Wimberly.
Enrollment Update: Class F2010 – possibility of 8 students – 2 have completed pre-requisite courses; 6 will complete pre-requisite courses this summer. Demographics: 2 from Fredericksburg (1 employed at HCMH and 1 employed at Peterson Regional Hospital); 6 from Kerrville (5 employed with Peterson Regional Hospital).
Prospects: Ms. Hoover reported 4 students from VNSG 2010 class have completed pre-requisites to start ADN program in Fall 2011 and an additional 5 students will complete the pre-requisites in Spring 2011; 38 prospects have been in since February 2010 obtaining information about program, of which 12 have or/are enrolled for classes; and additional 15 students are currently working on pre-requisites.
Discussion was led by Ruthann Hoover and Nan Walters regarding the classroom situation for the ADN program. Since Fall 2009 the ADN program has not had a regular classroom in which to meet. The IVC Classroom is available on Mondays, as there are no scheduled classes for the VNSG program. However, there is not space available other than in the Student Lounge for classes on Tuesday, which is not an appropriate classroom situation due to the copier, coke machine and refrigerator being located in that room. It was discussed about the ADN class meeting at the new Hill Country University Center campus, but that is not feasible as Ruthann needs access to the Skills Lab when having class.
Robert Weinheimer said there are funds available to start the second phase for the Nursing Program at the Hill Country University Center. It is hopeful they can start looking at plans towards the end of 2010. He suggested representatives from ACC and he meet with the HCMH Hospital Board, Administration or Foundation Members to see about assisting with the funding of the 2nd phase.
