Ms. Hoover reported there were 6 students who recently completed the ADN program in August 2011, all passed their boards and are working professionals in the medical field. 1 student was from Fredericksburg, 5 from Kerrville.
Current Students: Current enrollment – 7 students, class began with 8 students, 1 of which was a student re-entering program from withdrawal of 2010 class; 1 student failed RNSG 1140.
Demographics: 2 students from Fredericksburg, 2 students from Kerrville and 3 students from Austin
Enrollment Update: Prospects for Class beginning Fall 2012
* 4 students have completed pre-requisite courses – 1 student from 2010 VNSG class; 3 from current VNSG class completing program in May 2012
* 10 students will be completing pre-requisite courses in Spring 2012 – 2 from 2012 VNSG class; 3 from current 2012 VNSG class; 3 from Schreiner LVN program; 2 from other accredited LVN programs

Future Plans:
Ms. Hoover expressed concern regarding available clinical space at HCM since Schreiner is now at the hospital on Mondays. Jayne Pope and Rae Lear from Hill Country Memorial assured Ms. Hoover and Georgia Jernigan, VNSG instructor, they would continue to collaborate with ACC in an effort to support the nursing program with the amount of required clinical time. They also emphasized they are working on instilling programs, such as Chasing Zero and other safety environment issues which help to eliminate errors and establishing nursing priorities.

Vocational Nursing Update

Current Students: There are currently 16 students in Level 3 of the VNSG program. Demographics are: 1 from Blanco, 8 from Fredericksburg, 1 from Kerrville, 5 from the Mason area and 1 from Round Mountain (Marble Falls area).
Stats:
* Spring 2011 – Level 1
o Began with 18 students – 1 withdrawal, decided nursing was not the vocation for her; 1 academic failure
* Summer 2011 – Level 2
o 17 students – 1 returning from 2010 class withdrawal, 1 academic failure
Previous Class: Class of 2010 – 9 students completed the program in December 2010, all have passed their boards. All are employed in the health care field, 4 are working in nursing home or assisted living areas; 2 are working in hospitals and 3 are working in clinic's or doctor's offices.

Future Plans:
Ms. Jernigan expressed her concern regarding this current class being able to secure jobs after completing the program and passing the boards. Sharon Bailey with Knopp Nursing Home said they are seeing sicker patients being admitted to the nursing home, requiring more skilled care. She said they are also seeing a lot of re- admissions.
Rae Leer with HCM expressed the need of securing a certificate stating students completing the LVN program are IV certified. Ms. Jernigan and Sandra McCrary-Marshall assured her the students were certified to start IV's and a certificate will be provided to students stating this. Ms. Jernigan and Ms. McCrary-Marshall requested Ms. Leer provide them with information regarding what the hospital requires in regards to certification to ensure ACC is meeting their needs in regards to this matter.

The guests present were agreeable to serving on the Advisory Committee. In addition recommendations were made to extend an invitation to Nannette Tisdel, the HOSA teacher at FISD who also teaches Medical Terminology and Pharmacology with ACC, staff from the Good Samaritan Center and the new DON, Debra Lietz with Windcrest Nursing Home.

Hill Country University Center Update

Susan Nichols reported the Center is working on trying to figure out space for the nursing program. At this time there is a lack of adequate space for the skills lab and office personnel. She said software for testing has been ordered that will be sufficient for Texas Tech's and ACC's needs. ACC nursing faculty emphasized to Ms. Nichols we need to be included in the planning stages of this decision to ensure accommodations made will fit the nursing program's needs.
The Nursing Program has utilized the HEB room at the University Center for several nursing functions. The most recent event held was the ADN Graduation on August 4, 2011 with 150+ people in attendance.
