IT is currently in the process of developing a roll-out plan for the use of QAS Pro (Quick Address System) in Colleague UI 4.3. Due to licensing issues, this will be only for Admissions & Records office personnel with the access to update student addresses. The product works similarly to QAS Pro Web which is working inside ACC's Online Student Admissions Application. This combination has been effective in ensuring real USPS-certified addresses are imported into Colleague. (There is no similar address verification tool working in conjunction with the state's ''Apply Texas'' admissions application.)
Some of the technical description regarding the installation of QAS Pro:
The QAS remote access is now working using a UNC based shortcut
The operator needs to create a shortcut that points to \\qas\qas\Qas Pro 6.90\QAPROWN.EXE (IT will try making this an easy install.)
For now, continue to use the 2 layouts we created with QAS technician:
alt+n = NAE
alt+a = ADR

COUNTIES Table

Discussion
In conjunction with QAS Pro, which assists with the correct street address/city/state/zip information, the CORE Committee looked at the COUNTIES table in order to see if the County could be auto-populated based on the other address information. Because the COUNTIES table is using an id number foreign to the USPS, this cannot be done. The alphabetic id numbering of the COUNTIES name is part of the Texas Coordinating Board schema. Thus, with or without QAS Pro, the operator will have to enter the county separately from the other address information.
Item # 3:
ODS & Data Issues
Presenter
Andrew
Discussion
ODS (Operational Data Stores), which allows for the SQLization of Datatel's UniData files into relational SQL Server tables has a nice tool for identifying data errors in the UniData files.
The CORE Committee will play an important role in the cleaning up of bad data.
For the March meeting, the CORE Committee will focus on a few to get the ball rolling: AR.INVOICE.ITEMS (which has only 1 bad record!), STUDENT.PROGRAMS (which has 33 data errors, most of which are of an identical type), and PERSON (which has 36 data errors, including the longest middle name you could ever imagine.).
There are currently 244 ODS Tables available in the ODS/SQL Server DBMS.
Item # 4:
Name Change Process
Presenter
Theresa
Discussion
Name changes affect many things. The CORE Committee decided that we need to approach this from the specific things that the different departments do, and discuss this again at the next CORE meeting.
