Item # 4:
Discussion on Hospitality Management department’s request for an online synchronous delivery mode.
Presenter
Liz Hundley
Discussion
Liz would like to use BB collaborate for online synchronous course development. Committee raised concerns about this new mode due to ADA compliance (live captioning is very expensive), background noise, the need to have two browsers open and concerns about how synchronous requirement is made clear to students. The Committee inquired about the need for and potential benefits of synchronous online course development and advocated for the proposed courses to be developed in an existing asynchronous modality. Discussion followed about the possibility of developing a new course modality for synchronous online courses. Committee acknowledges that this could be beneficial, but at this time declines to make a recommendation for or against the development of a new course modality for synchronous online courses. Herb suggested it is the responsibility of the Curriculums and Programs committee. Committee defers this question to the Curriculum and Programs Committee.
