Item # 1:
Faculty Evaluations
Presenter
Dr. Martha Perez
Discussion
Dr. Perez explained that the term "good" for faculty rankings is a pre-programmed term for Class Climate software and is the equivalent of the fair ranking for student evaluation section of the faculty evaluation summary form.
Dr. Perez reported that the Class Climate software was maxed out and did not create output for reports. The office of faculty and staff evaluation (FSEO) found that this was the case for about 3% (145 to date) courses which then were re-scanned and re-sent to department chairs and faculty via e-mail. A course of action has already been planned to resolve this issue (annual archiving of previous years and just keeping current system on-line).
Dr. Perez reported the "human error" factor was improved from last fall. No data re-scans for mixed forms this time and scan quality was improved by touching up before scanning. The student yellow page worked! (Last year FSEO had to re-scan 500 courses for surveys filled out with pencil). This time, assistants re-touched and recopied before scanning to enhance quality.
Dr. Perez reported that the logs with campus mail room lead clerks helped reconcile the "no find" courses.
Dr. Perez reported that the flex form was successful. FSEO will carry an initiative to shift Distance Learning evaluation to Class Climate system. Need research and training how to integrate with Black Board Community system.
Action Item
Dr. Perez will continue to advocate with superiors for further investment in Class Climate to enhance Distance Learning evaluation and other reports that Deans and Department Chairs need such as batch faculty ranking reports and spreadsheets with data on this
Item # 2:
Staff Evaluations
Presenter
Dr. Martha Perez
Discussion
Dr. Perez updated the EC on staff evaluation as well. The Department Chair PEP form was e-mailed to deans for feedback and FSEO received one response of "no objection" by one dean.
Action Item
Dean Scott will review the department chair job description and change the form as needed. Will re-send out again to Deans in March or April.
Dr. Perez will continue to follow the progress of PEP automation and update committee when product is available.
Dr. Perez updated on the progress of the PEP form automation process; once finished Dr. Perez will bring a flow chart for EC input.
Item # 3:
Open Issues
Presenter
Dr. Martha Perez
Discussion
Dr. Perez reported that this past fall there were requests for changing instructional methods, e.g., when courses have one professor teaching a lab and one teaching the lecture aspect to the course. The EC said agreed that instructional methods cannot be changed because these are regulated by the Coordinating Board. The committee feels that procedures to do so and request such changes need to be written.
Action Item:
Dr. Perez. will create such procedures and present to the Committee.
Dr. Perez presented a paper submitted by faculty to change the "office hours" question in student surveys. The EC felt that there was no need to do this. The EC stated that Deans and Department Chairs know about these issues and if the professor documents a signed syllabus, or presence in office hours, that there is no need to change the form.
Item # 4:
Open Forum
Presenter
Dr. Martha Perez
Discussion
The EC asked that HB 2405 be discussed next time; particularly there needs to be a decision of what information should or should not be posted online. It was suggested that the same format that worked for Pick-a Prof will work. Concerns are related to the FERPA issues with student handwriting posted online.
Action Item:
Dr. Perez will research options for data presentation and the EC will determine what to do.
