Introduction of New Members and Guests

Ms. Miller introduced new member, Lisa Benningfield – Director of Nurses with Windcrest Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Windcrest is a new affiliate of ACC and the Vocational Nursing Program.
Ruthann Hoover introduced Cindy Snodgrass as the new administrative assistant for the nursing program, replacing Donna Webb.

ADN Program - Mobility Track Update

2007 Graduation Summary – Ms. Hoover reported there will be 7 students graduating in August 2007, out of an original starting class number of 8. One student failed to meet course requirements in the second semester. Graduation has been set for Thursday, August 9th @ 7:00 p.m. and will be held at First Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall.
Enrollment Update – Ms. Hoover reported there are 10 potential students for the class beginning in August 2007. Two students have already submitted their application for the program, four students have meet all the pre-requisite requirements and are waiting on transcripts, etc. and four students will be completing their final pre-requisite courses this summer.
We have an ongoing list of 62 potential students, inclusive of the 10 potential students for the class beginning in August 2007. A geographic breakdown of the 62 potential students is as follows:
Curriculum Issues – Ms. Hoover reported we are still receiving several inquiries from paramedics, respiratory technicians and EMT's regarding the ADN program. At the last information session we had our first surgical technician inquire about the program.

Vocational Nursing Program Update

2007 Graduation Summary – Ms. Miller reported the graduating class of 2007 began with 14 students and now have 7 enrolled. The 1st semester 2 students withdrew, unable to meet class objectives; the 2nd semester 2 students were withdrawn for failure to meet course objectives, 1 student failed and 1 student transferred to the ADN program in Austin; the 3rd semester 1 student withdraw at the beginning of the semester due to making a career and major change.
Enrollment Update – Ms. Miller reported there are 63 students who have either attended an information session, inquired and/or are working on pre-requisite courses. 21 students have attended an information session in 2007.

18 students have expressed interest in being a part of the 2008 VNG class. 16 are currently enrolled in summer classes and will hopefully complete pre-requisites this fall. 2 students will have their pre-requisites completed this summer.
Curriculum Issues and Future Plans – Pat Recek reported we are close to having the CAPs or information session completed on-line for students. Susan Nichols reminded the group the GO van is accessible for when we schedule information sessions off campus, such as at the hospital and/or schools.
There was discussion regarding concerns regarding the math skills of potential students. Susan Nichols reported she is assessing more students who have only taken basic math skills in high school and are not really prepared to take the math portion of the assessment tests.
Robert Weinheimer inquired as to the availability of information to high school students regarding degrees in the medical profession. Pat Recek stated in Austin they have a Nursing Academy offered in the Junior High and High Schools. It calls for a one day commitment, and information is presented as to what is required to pursue a nursing career. This was discussed at length and Margie Lieck and Linda Miller both agreed to serve on this committee if someone would serve as chairperson. Pat Recek said she would forward information to all interested parties about this program.

Hill Country University Center Update

Susan Nichols reported on the progress of the Hill Country University Center. She reported the ground work for Phase I will begin in September 2007, with an estimated completion date in Spring 2009. Phase I will include offices, 8 IVC classrooms and 2 prep. rooms for Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. ACC's computer lab and nursing program will remain where they are currently located until Phase II has been completed.

Pat Recek reported Austin and Fredericksburg in regards to NCLEX are now reported under one program code. Ms. Recek stated this will help to keep accurate statistics in regards to students passing the board exam and will make reporting less cumbersome
