COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Credit Hours: 3

This is an Online 3 credit hour course

All courses offered in the Visual Communication department are workforce courses, and may have some transfer restrictions to other colleges. Students interested in transferring courses to another college should speak with our departmental advisors: Kim Aland or Jen Jones, or their Area of Study advisor.”

Course Prerequisites:

None required this is a foundation course

Course Rationale/Objectives

This is a foundation course, which introduces students to a set of design tools and visual problem solving techniques that will give them the skills to become prolific creative problems solvers. These skills and knowledge will lay the foundation for the more advanced design courses. We start very simply by using very basic shapes, with an introduction to a few design and computer tools. Each assignment will progressively become more difficult, incorporating the entire Principles and Elements of Design in our problem solving.

Teaching Methodology & Online Weekly Work Schedule

The teaching methods in this class are based on professional experience and best practices in the area of design and advertising. These teaching methods will include: Video lectures, demonstration, online group critiques and one-on-one feedback using Online Discussion Board.

This is a 100% Online Class, so all of the project’s lectures, instruction, reading and handouts will be online, so it will be essential for students to check and follow Blackboard throughout the semester.
