Course Requirements
Exams:
- Exam 1 covers Chapters 1 to 6. Available after Week7
- Exam2 covers Chapter 7 to Chapter 11. Available in Week14
- Exam1 & 2 will be MCQs
- The exams are open book and will be taken only once remotely in Blackboard.
- Exam can only be taken in Respondus Browser. Please install Respondus Browser using this link: https://instruction.austincc.edu/students/article/respondus-quick-start-guide/
- Exams cannot be paused once started.
- Exam3 is a take-home Lab Exam that requires students to submit answers in a word document
- Exams must be completed by Saturday May 15th midnight CST.
Quiz:
- Each Quiz can be taken three times
- Each quiz will have twenty MCQs and comprised of questions from two chapters each.
- The Highest grade will be counted towards the grade.
- Quiz links will be given in Blackboard.
- Quiz is open-book.
- Due date for each quiz is given in the Blackboard. Late submission policy will apply.
Labs:
- Total number of labs is 15 approximately but this number can change
- Please make sure you have access to a laptop with a Windows 10 or Apple OS on it. Please email me if you have any questions. The Lab assignments will NOT work if you have Chrome Book. Please refrain from ChromeBooks. You will not be able to do labs.
- Please make sure your Laptop is capable of running a virtual machine software such as Virtual Box. Instructions on Virtual Box will be provided in class.
- Will cover learning outcomes for the course
- Deadline to submit labs will be specified in Blackboard. Late submission policy will apply.
Attendance:
- Each video lecture recording link will be shared on Blackboard for you to watch at your own convenience.
- Video lecture recording will show you a password.
- You will use that password to go into blackboard to access an attendance survey for that particular lecture.
- Each video lecture will have an attendance survey in the Blackboard.
- You will have to type that password to access that particular Attendance survey and check Yes to the question in the survey.
- This way you will be able to watch the lecture at your own convenience and record your attendance.
- You are highly ENCOURAGED to attend the lecture live as it will allow you to go over the material and ask questions specially because we will be doing labs live during video lectures.

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
This course provides an introduction to operating system basics with the intent of giving a student a deeper understanding of various operating systems. Operating systems covered include Windows 7 through Windows 10 desktop operating systems, Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, and Mac OS X operating systems. Students will learn some networking basics and information involving how to create mixed environments.
