Course Requirements

Course Description:

This course examines the practices and processes of importing, determining what products to import, management operations, and government controls.  Skill development in the preparation and understanding of import documents such as customs invoices, packing lists, and commercial invoices.  Course will focus on creating an import marketing plan and the proper steps for selecting, buying, importing, and selling a product in the U.S. market.

Course Requirements:

Read assigned chapters befor coming to class
Complete the weekly quizes 
Complete the import marketing plan
Complete 3 tests 
Participate in class discussion

 

Course Rationale

This course provides students with broad understanding of importing procedures and requirements, including marketing, government controls and programs, shipping terms, payments options duty assessment, and product valuation.

Learning objectives:

At the conclusion of the course the student should have:

  1. Strategies for a successful import business plan;
  2. An understanding of the various components of import operations;
  3. A realization of the government regulations that can impact import operations;
  4. A recognition of the various payment and shipping options for an import business;
  5. An awareness of the appropriate aspects of NAFTA and the WTO
