Course Requirements

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Do the orientation and take the orientation quiz for 10 extra credit points.
  2. Read the text book (class schedule for assignments)
  3. Use the material on the Blackboard web site
  4. Take the quizzes, if assigned, (online) and the tests (in testing centers) on time (see class schedule).
  5. Students are required to stay on schedule (you may complete the course faster if you wish but not slower).   This is not a self pace course.
  6. Students are required to get the help they need in a timely fashion (do not wait till the end of the semester).  If for some reason, your messages are not returned it is up to you to follow up and get help.  Make sure you include your name, section number and the name of the class in all communications.  I try to answer distance-learning students as quickly as possible.   However, some days my office receives over 100 emails!  With that Type of volume, all kinds of things can go wrong.   So, don’t waste time waiting, call again if you don’t get the help you need.  Email or texting are generally the easiest ways to reach me but if you do not get a response in the time frame you need it PLEASE call me on my cell phone.

READING

It is important to read the chapters carefully as all the test questions come from the textbook.  In addition, students are encouraged to use the instructor’s Blackboard site for a variety of helpful study aides.  If you have a problems call the instructor for help.  There is also a method to help your reading on my web site.

HOMEWORK

Refer to the schedule for the homework assignments and the dates for the exams. Homework should be completed in preparation for exams but will not be collected for credit.  It is impossible to do well on the exams without reading the book and understanding the concepts.

EXAMS, GRADED ASSIGNMENTS, AND GRADING

A.   There are five required exams for this course which may be taken at any of the ACC testing centers (see below for additional information about testing centers). You WILL need to supply your own #2 pencil with a good eraser.  The exams will be made up of either true/false and multiple choice questions which will be completed on the scantron form. You will have approximately 60 of these type of questions worth three points each. These are NOT open book exams.  However, You will be allowed to bring a 4”x6” index card, handwritten with anything you choose.  The index card will be handed in with the exam.

TESTING CENTERS

The tests may be taken at any of the following ACC testing centers:

Rio Grande Campus   Riverside Campus             Eastview Campus

Northridge Campus          Round Rock Campus      Cypress Creek Campus

Pinnacle Campus              Fredericksburg Campus    San Marcos High School

The testing centers in bold above seem to get exams to me more quickly.  You may use the others but realize that until I receive the exam from the testing center, I cannot post your grades.  Check with the center you are interested in for their hours and allow 1 1/12 hours to take the exams.  You will need a student identification (or fee receipt card) and a picture identification (drivers’ license works great) to take the exams in the testing centers.  You can get student identification at the Bursar’s Office at any of our main campuses.  The website for the testing centers is:

http://www2.austin.cc.tx.us/testctr/

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR COURSE SYNONYM (SECTION NUMBER) WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO TO THE ACC TESTING CENTER. The 16 week and 12 week courses have different section numbers, and you will need to be familiar with your section number so that you will be given the correct exam in the ACC testing center.
