Course Description:

Students learn the basics of cost estimating and how to develops takeoffs to create estimates for equipment, labor and materials for a project.

Instructional method: 

Upon completion of this course, students will understand the basic fundamentals of cost estimating. Also, students will learn how to read and develop takeoffs in order to formulate estimates for equipment, labor and material for a given project.  Students will also be able to apply this knowledge as it pertains to project management.

Lecture with in class exercises based on assigned reading.

Grading Policy: 

As in all classes, attendance is extremely important due to the in class projects and the lectures which explain how to complete each project.  Students are responsible for completing all reading assignments prior to attending class.

  • Attendance and participation equals 50% of your final grade.  (3.125% per class)
  • Homework and completion of in class assignments equals 15% of your final grade.
  • Mid-term equals 15% of your final grade.
  • Final Exam equals 20% of your final grade.

“Acts prohibited by the college for which discipline may be administered include scholastic dishonesty, including but not limited to cheating on an exam or quiz, plagiarizing and unauthorized collaboration with another in preparing outside work.  Academic work submitted by students shall be the result of their thought, research or self-expression.  Academic work is defined as, but not limited to tests, quizzes, whether taken electronically or on paper; projects, either individual or group; classroom presentations, and homework” (Student Handbook, 2002-2003, p. 32).
