Teaching Experience

2009 – present

Assistant Professor/Department Chair, Creative Writing Department

                        Austin Community College, Austin, TX

                        Teach fiction, poetry, nonfiction and memoir in both traditional and online courses;

Teach beginning and advanced courses as well as the academic coop, where students

                        completing the Creative Writing degree plan intern on Austin Community College’s

                        student literary journal, The Rio Review.

 

2005- 2009     

Adjunct Professor, Department of English

College of the Redwoods, Fort Bragg, California

Taught College Reading and Writing, an argumentative developmental writing course with emphasis on critical reading of essays; Taught Modern Literature, an introduction course of great literature from 1840-1945; Taught College Composition, an expository and argumentative writing course focusing on the foundational tools of intellectual inquiry; Taught Critical Inquiry & Literature, with emphasis on inductive and deductive reasoning, logic and identifying fallacies; Taught reading and writing of the Short Story, focusing on craft and voice; Taught English 52, a writing lab focused on the drafting and editing process.

 

2002-2003      

Adjunct Faculty, English, Tidewater Community College, Norfolk, Virginia

Taught English 03; preparing for College Writing 2. Instruction of this

Developmental Composition course included strengthening writing, reading

and critical thinking, grammar, and vocabulary skills. 

 

1994-1996      

Adjunct Professor, University of California, Davis, Davis, California

Taught Composition utilizing a semiotic approach to instruction.  Taught Creative Writing, all courses fulfilling the general education requirement for undergraduates. Classes included traditional and non-traditional students.

 

1993-1994       Teaching Assistant, University of California, Davis, Davis, California.

Assisted with a variety of courses including Native American Literature, The British Novel and Interpretation of Literature.
