General Statement of Job

Responsible for the oversight and success of the new student orientation and first semester academic advising for new students.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws.  Recommends hire and termination personnel actions for positions supervised.
  2. Coordinates and supervises the operations and staff of the entry advising team aiding new students in their transition to the College.
  3. Upholds the mission of the College by exposing, orienting, and advising new students into high-quality for-credit educational programs and services that promote student learning and success.
  4. Promotes and leads the development and implementation of orientation and new student / first semester advising policies and procedures for assigned staff, and interprets application of those policies and procedures, ensuring consistency in implementation; develops, maintains, and disseminates advising materials and manuals.
  5. Collaborates with Instructional staff and Student Affairs staff to focus on the development and  enhancement of for-credit orientation sessions and new student / first-semester advising processes; collaborates with related faculty coordinators, Student Affairs staff, Student Life staff and designees to prepare updates and reports on attendance/participation of students at orientation events.
  6. Collaborates with the Director of Recruitment Services and AVP of Enrollment Management to review success metrics and identify action items to improve successful implementation of strategies and objectives.
  7. Works with the Director of Recruitment Services to establish, maintain, update, and communicate an entry advising procedures manual for the first-semester advising function as well as implementing strategies following guidelines to achieve department goals and objectives.
  8. Responds to and/or directs inquiries in person, on the telephone, or via e-email; accesses and works with other staff and/or departments to assist in resolving issues from new for-credit students.
  9. Gathers, compiles and enters data, producing routine and specialized reports and documents, student information database, files, records, logs and other tracking systems.
  10. Monitors prospective student records, data, workflow, and related guidelines to assure they are in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  11. Supports the new student onboarding process in addition to orientation and entry advising as needed, including recruiting, registration, and communication.
  12. Builds and sustains strong relationships within the Enrollment Management division and college community to support guided entry to the first day of class.
