General Statement of Job

Responsible for aiding new students in their transition to the College and upholding the College's mission by orienting new students to high-quality educational for-credit programs and areas of support and establishing a first-semester course load that promotes student learning and prepares students for their educational and career goals.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Guides students during group advising sessions regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, registration, TSI compliance, Academic Standards of Progress, adjustment to college life, study habits, career planning, and financial wellness.
  2. Supports students during advising sessions with preparation for paying for college, including information on scholarships; benefits; and the application, award, and administration of financial aid to ensure eligible students have access to and are prepared to leverage federal and state aid for the completion of academic awards.
  3. Assesses needs for assistance, financial aid, or additional training, and refers students to the appropriate services.
  4. Coordinates referrals to college and community services as needed, including Support Center, Student Accessibility Services, and student mental health counseling. Shares student life opportunities including special interest groups that are designed to engage students in academic and co-curricular learning.
  5. Reviews transcripts and interprets test scores and other information to determine college readiness and compliance with the TSI.
  6. Maintains expert advising knowledge of assigned Area(s) of Study.
  7. Assists with the organization, preparation, implementation, evaluation and delivery of New Student Orientation.
  8. Documents advising recommendations, directives, interventions, and other pertinent information in the district's various information management platforms; reply to emails and telephone calls timely regarding program or course issues.
  9. Gathers data and prepares reports on students and activities as required by supervisor or ACC leadership.
  10. Supports the new student onboarding process beyond recruiting as needed, including orientation, entry advising, registration, and communication.
  11. Builds and sustains strong relationships within the Enrollment Management division and college community to support guided entry to the first day of class.
