General Statement of Job

The Manager of Business Intelligence (BI) is responsible for providing strategic and effective leadership in creating and managing the reporting infrastructure that supports business intelligence, data analytics, and complex and standard reporting solutions to all areas at Austin Community College.  The Manager is the primary support person for the Data Warehouse, Reporting, Analysis, and Analytics team, and takes a senior role on tasks and mentoring/managing database and reporting analysts and database administrators on the team within the IT department.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws.  Recommends hire and termination personnel actions for positions supervised.
  2. Manages strategic reporting and data projects, performs strategic analysis of reporting best practices, design reporting, and data process flows.
  3. Supervises Analysts performing high level reporting and analysis and provides direction and mentoring to team.
  4. Supervises Database Administrators.
  5. Prioritizes and delegates requests received by the Reporting and Analytics team.
  6. Leads and provides QC guidelines for the work of the Database Reporting and Analytics team.
  7. Analyzes data and develops business dashboards for managers, customers and administrators.
  8. Helps organize reporting software training to reporting specialists in administrative departments, as well as to IT staff.
  9. Leads in the evaluation and implementation of selected IT business intelligence, analytics, and reporting software solutions.
  10. Provides extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of all selected IT reporting software solutions.
  11. Develops and maintains complex administrative database reports; develops and maintains complex internal and third party data extracts.
  12. Converts critical existing reports from old or obsolete software into newer, IT-supported reporting software queries and programs.
  13. In coordination with Quality Control team, ensures accuracy of standards and procedural documentation related to reporting solutions.
