Austin Community College (ACC) is a public two-year institution that serves a diverse population of approximately 41,000 credit students each fall and spring semester. In fall 2018, ACC's students were 44% White, 36% Latinx, 8% African-American, 5% Asian, <1% Pacific Islander, <1% Native-American, and 4% multiracial. General Statement of Job

The Vice President for Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) provides leadership in the identification, collection, analysis, interpretation, reporting and communication of data and information throughout the College to support and enhance informed decision-making, problem-solving, strategic planning, policy development, and institutional self-assessment.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Champions and provides leadership for an ongoing culture of data, assessment, institutional effectiveness, and continuous improvement by developing systems and processes that facilitate the use of meaningful data in decision-making and strategic planning.
  2. Chairs a college-wide institutional effectiveness team to review and analyze data and prepare reports in support of enrollment management, program quality, student success, institutional effectiveness, and others as directed by the President and Executive Team.
  3. Conducts and/or assists on a wide variety of survey research efforts in analysis of student success, student satisfaction, program need, transfer success, graduate satisfaction, employer satisfaction, and institutional climate. This includes survey construction, development of survey instruments, and design of survey protocols and procedures.
  4. Acquires, manipulates, develops, and maintains longitudinal data sets, verifying accuracy and consistency over time.
  5. Develops data dashboards for key stakeholders across the College.
  6. Serves as the steward of college data and information by ensuring institutional compliance with all privacy, security, and ethical considerations. Determines what data and information should be used for various purposes and whether interpretations are correct and appropriately used.
  7. Provides training to faculty, staff, and administrators related to effective use of data.
  8. Promotes strong partnerships with research counterparts at local high schools and universities.
  9. Anticipates research needs, questions, and possible solutions through review of research studies and best practices.
  10. Collaborates with Information Technology as needed for the development and management of data as necessary.
  11. Supervises college-wide reporting to state, regional, and federal agencies.
  12. Collaborates with Institutional Planning, Development, and Evaluation as needed for development of institutional and unit strategic plans, budgets, and assessments.
  13. Chairs an institutional research committee to review and approve internal as well as external requests for research related to ACC students, personnel, programs, and/or services.
  14. Ensures appropriate safety training is completed, and compliance with all health and safety rules and processes.
