To direct, plan, and implement year-round exhibition programming for the Art Galleries, manage their daily operations, and oversee the permanent Fine Arts Collection.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Directs and plans innovative and inclusive exhibition programming for two main Art Galleries and district-wide auxiliary spaces.  Collaborates closely with exhibition committee, art department staff, visiting artists, curators and others to plan, develop, and launch exhibitions and public programs.
  2. Oversees the daily operations of the art galleries including hiring, training, and supervising gallery and exhibition staff.
  3. Advises on staffing needs, capital improvements, and facilities to ensure standards are maintained for exhibitions and the permanent art collection.
  4. Ensures the safety, security, and integrity of permanent art collection, exhibitions, gallery programs and facilities.
  5. Oversees budgetary and financial matters with advice and direct input from the Art department chair and exhibition committee.
  6. Facilitates public receptions and acts as primary point-of-contact for visiting artists, curators, and groups.  Coordinates outreach and marketing to enhance visibility both within and outside the college.
  7. Directs staff in the creation, distribution, and maintenance of printed and digital promotional information, including for webpage and social media platforms.  Researches, writes, designs, and produces exhibition-specific handouts for different age groups.
  8. Facilitates curriculum development to integrate exhibition programming.
  9. Facilitates development of student internships for service learning experience in galleries and exhibitions.
  10. Establishes and maintains professional networks at local, state, national levels.
  11. Researches and writes grants to support educational programs and to secure funding for exhibitions and visiting artists.
  12. Supervises staff in managing the permanent fine art collection of over 250+ artworks including maintaining an on-campus loan program, implementing a collection management policy, maintaining the physical care and documentation of the collection's objects, and other registration duties.
  13. Supervises staff in maintaining/updating the photo digital archive of ACC student, faculty and visiting artist's work; ensures archive is accessible through online platforms.
  14. Facilitates development and oversight of the mission, vision, and goals of the galleries in accordance with college-wide and departmental strategic plans.
