General Statement of Job

Responsible for the oversight and success of the Upward Bound program in partnership with Austin Independent School District (AISD) Northeast and Travis Early College High Schools. Administration of program objectives and goals while increasing knowledge related to higher education, career assessment and life skills. 

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A GRANT POSITION WITH FUNDING THROUGH 8/31/2022.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws.  Recommends hire and termination personnel actions for positions supervised.
  2. Assists in planning and coordinating all education program activities, including  hiring and training of academic and summer staff, scheduling and teaching classes; scheduling volunteers and outside agencies to facilitate classes, organize attendance at other educational fairs and events; developing and updating lesson plans.
  3. Assists the director in conducting follow up activities to track the post-secondary achievement of former participants using evaluations of the effectiveness of the program components and assist in programmatic adjustments as necessary.
  4. Works to identify agencies and community service providers to make presentations and/or support outreach activities; coordinates and schedules volunteers as necessary to conduct financial education or other seminars; builds relationships with local college career placement teams and local vocational school programs.
  5. Assists with recruitment, selection, assessment, supervision, and year-end evaluation of all project participants; monitors/tracks participant's academic progress and provides academic advising and career information; assists Director with hiring, training, and evaluation of tutorial, instructional and summer staff.
  6. Prepares and maintains statistical records on all education related activities; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports for the director and ensures the accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
  7. Tracks the post-secondary progress of all graduated participants and provides support to assist in the yearly matriculation until receiving a certificate of completion or degree within six years of high school graduation.
  8. Works with graduating seniors to ensure college enrollment including SAT/ACT, Financial Aid, Housing and Freshman Orientation attendance of participants.
  9. Manages the dual enrollment and AP course load of participants to track high school completion of a associate degree.
