Austin Community College District (ACC) is an Hispanic-Serving Institution.  ACC currently enrolls approximately 41,500 credit students in each Fall and Spring semester, over half of whom are non-white.  In Fall 2017, ACC's students were 45% White, 36% Latinx, 8% African-American, 5% Asian, <1% Pacific Islander, <1% Native-American, and 4% multiracial.  ACC is committed to serving all students, including gender non-conforming and LGBTQI students.  ACC's designation as an Hispanic-Serving Institution reflects the commitment the college has to supporting our students' educational goals as well as the economic and social well-being of the surrounding communities we serve.

Job Summary

To provide mentoring to assigned students.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is a 12 month, 20 hour/week position.  For FY21, the hiring pay range for this position is $16,658 to $23,797.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist assigned students to navigate degree programs and engage with students in regular review of degree plan progress.
  • Assist assigned students to learn more about programs, career options, transfer institutions, and professional pathways and help students make decisions about those options.
  • Assist assigned students to make connections, ensuring that work on internships or other experiential learning opportunities is a collaboration with other ACC resources, including Career Services.
  • Assist assigned students to network, make connections with business and industry, connect with faculty at colleges and universities, and connect to other learning and career opportunities at ACC and in the broader community.
  • Assist assigned students to manage being a student, both directly and by facilitating connections to student support services (academic advising, academic coaches, learning labs, career services and transfer services, counselors for social & mental health needs).
  • Work with assigned students to initiate reasonable and appropriate course substitutions and be the point of contact between the student and Department Chair
  • Support and participate in Areas of Study and academic program events and initiatives (Ex: AoS sessions, AoS student events, development of learning communities, student groups organized around majors.)
  • Provide mentorship that encourages, supports, and guides assigned students in their academic and professional development and contributes to student persistence, retention, and completion.
  • Build relationships across instruction and student services, supporting partnerships.
  • Attend meetings and activities related to student advising in the department, the dean area, and/or college wide.
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training related to faculty mentoring.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation of mentoring work.
  • Work with assigned students towards completion of degree and/or transfer.

ACC Benefits Overview

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
