Job Summary

Responsible to serve as Nursing Clinical Coordinator in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field.

The Clinical Faculty Coordinator (CFC) is responsible for the oversight of all nursing clinical sites (ADN and RN-to-BSN) in coordination and under the direction of the Professional Nursing Department Chair (DC).  The CFC is responsible for monitoring and evaluating all nursing clinical sites and student experiences in coordination with the DC.  They will verify that faculty and students have met the credentialing requirements of assigned facilities and that all required documentation has been submitted to the healthcare agencies.  The CFC will coordinate the orientation program for all clinical faculty to ensure that the course/program outcomes are achieved.  The CFC will schedule regular visits to the healthcare agencies being utilized each semester, documenting the findings of each visit and initiating necessary improvements in coordination with the DC.

Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate with DC and assistant DC to identify, monitor, and evaluate all clinical adjunct faculty.
  • Visit all clinical sites and the healthcare partner nurse educator(s) at least one to two times during 16 week semester clinical courses; one time for 8 week semesters, to support a relevant and comprehensive student learning experience.
  • Work in conjunction with course faculty to establish alignment of clinical experiences with course and program outcomes/goals.
  • Verifies with the person responsible for clinical compliance that faculty and student verification and documentation of clinical compliance requirements, has been completed before designated date.
  • Serve as the first-point-of-contact for resolution of clinical personnel issues that may arise between staff at the clinical site and clinical faculty and students.
  • Coordinate orientation, training, and development guidance for clinical faculty regarding their clinical site and related nursing coursework.
  • Act as a faculty mentor to assist new adjunct faculty in clinical related teaching activities including but not limited to: understanding their role as clinical instructors, grading system, use of pre- and post-clinical conferences, handling challenging student situations, student evaluation forms, course management site, electronic charting requirements, etc.
  • Provide input into the evaluation process of clinical adjunct instructors/preceptors.
  • Ensure all evaluations for clinical agencies are completed and given to the appropriate person to be tallied, report compiled, and given to the DC
  • May have teaching responsibilities in lab or clinical course.
  • Serve as the Austin Community College Nursing point of contact for the Healthcare Workforce Alliance of Central Texas (HWACT) and the Centralized Clinical Scheduling Coordinators. This entails multiple responsibilities such as submitting and editing all clinical schedules and rosters to the StudentMax system
  • Maintain the clinical scheduling program (Student max) up to day and submit rollover three times per year
  • Update faculty names, student numbers, clinical units, and shift times, and other data in the StudentMax system on an on-going basis
  • Assist the department chairs in scheduling and assigning clinical assignments prior to beginning of each semester for full time and adjunct faculty
  • Maintain a current contact list for all clinical facilities affiliated with Austin Community College Nursing
  • The CFC will collaborate with the course faculty and DC to help arrange substitute clinical coverage and experiences for students.
  • Outreach to identify new/additional clinical sites for both the ADN and RN-to-BSN programs in a variety of healthcare and community settings and ensure appropriate to support the achievement of student learning outcomes for each program.

Required Education

Required Work Experience (Workforce Programs)

In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements: Three years of non-teaching, nursing experience in clinical nursing practice or an acute care setting are required for all candidates.

SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.

Criminal Background Check

Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all staff and faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC's District Police Department.

ACC Benefits Overview

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
