Austin Community College District (ACC) is a Hispanic-Serving Institution. ACC currently enrolls 41,500 students, over half of whom are non-white. Job Summary

The Health Science Retention Coordinator assists Health Sciences programs in increasing the completion or retention of students.  The selected candidate will work at Round Rock, Eastview, CEC, and Elgin campuses, with occasional visits to Hays and Cypress Campuses.  May require some evening and weekend hours.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assess barriers to retention and completion; devise strategies to eliminate or modify barriers and assist faculty to identify appropriate resources.
  • Design regular intrusive advising approaches to improve retention.
  • Assess needs of non-traditional students in Health Sciences and collaborate with faculty to develop specific strategies to retain non-traditional students.
  • Develop support materials and program re-entry materials to support success on readmission.
  • Conduct student workshops for academic success, test taking, enhancing reading skills, time management, and critical thinking strategies.
  • Assist students to use current online learning and remediation tools, provide stress management sessions, and assist students in preparation for high stakes testing.
  • Compile reports of student achievement with enrichment of academic support.
  • Work collaboratively with each program to develop applicable retention activities.
  • Identify high risk students upon entry into program; utilize data to implement strategies to support these students.
  • Work with faculty to identify students having academic or clinical difficulty.
  • Meet/contact high risk students before and after major exams.
  • Refer students to support services or tutoring as appropriate.
  • Support students during corrective action or disciplinary meetings.

  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Criminal Background Check

Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all staff and faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC's District Police Department.

ACC Benefits Overview

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
