General Statement of Job

To support the Austin Community College (ACC) District's advancement of sustainability strategies and goals working with various stakeholders across the district; responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and tracking programs and performance metrics for the college's initiatives related to ACC's Climate Action Plan.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Under the direction of the director, develops long-range plans, implements, and maintains the college's sustainability initiatives related to ACC's Climate Action Plan including, but not limited to, Transportation Demand Management, Education and Outreach, Food Services, Recycling & Waste Management, Water & Energy Conservation, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Construction and Renovation, Sustainable Facility Operations, Greening the Workplace, and related programs.
  2. Oversees the day-to-day activities of the sustainability programs throughout the district.
  3. Develops and maintains program tracking databases, analyzes data, and communicates progress and results to stakeholders; tracks the progress of the college's carbon reduction goals; monitors and analyzes program effectiveness and makes suggestions for improvement.
  4. Promotes the college's sustainability programs to both internal and external constituencies including students and employees; serves as a guest speaker such as in weekly employee orientation programs or external conferences; represents the college in multi-agency committees and task forces as assigned; participates in the shared governance process as a sustainability liaison providing technical knowledge; participates in vendor and construction contractor selection committees as requested; leads and manages campus behavior change programs designed to engage the ACC community in sustainability initiatives.
  5. Coordinates the communication of the college's sustainability programs including website and social media updates and e-Newsletter; coordinates information on initiatives with ACC Public Information and College Marketing; coordinates and manages sustainability-related events throughout the district including, but not limited to, Zero Waste events, Earth Week, Mobility Week, and Green Team activities; provides sustainability guidelines information  for vendors, committees, and other stakeholders.
  6. Researches sustainability "best practices" at peer and other institutions.
  7. Pursues other funding sources such as government grants when available including writing grant proposals, managing grant program implementation, tracking performance, submitting grant reports, and hosting representatives during funder site visits.
  8. Gathers, analyzes, and reports data.
  9. Develops and maintains a Green Office Badge Certification Program for all ACC faculty and staff.
  10. Manually installs and updates waste management signage and fixtures while maintaining ACC districtwide standards.
  11. Develops and maintains process to reuse/recycle ACC assets in collaboration with the warehouse and local governmental and non-profit partners. Posts items for sale or donation and coordinates pickup.
  12. Processes digital Green Pass applications, issues paper passes, and resolves all customer service and associated Green Pass IT issues.
  13. Liaises with Procure to Pay and attends various solicitation processes to provide sustainability feedback on future ACC contracts and purchases.
