General Statement of Job

The Kennel Assistant provides basic weekend care for animals of the ACC Veterinary Technology Program, including cleaning of cages, runs, ward areas, large animal pens, laundry, and clinical spaces. The Kennel Assistant will also be responsible for walking, feeding, medicating and care of all program animals. The Kennel Assistant operates under the supervision of the Program Chair and Program Coordinator.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Feeds, waters. walks, exercises, and bathes animals as needed.
  2. Administers medications as indicated by veterinarian.
  3. Cleans up after animals both inside the facility and outside, and cleans and disinfects cages, animal runs, litter boxes, and yards as needed.
  4. Maintains the clinic space as a whole by performing tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping/mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms.
  5. Operates washer and dryer to clean kennel bedding and hospital laundry.
  6. Assists other staff members as needed.
