Hours 40 hours per week as assigned usually M - F 9 am - 6 pm with some evenings and weekends.

General Statement of Job

To assist with program laboratories and clinical facilities and supervise animal care.  This position will operate and maintain animal facilities to meet or exceed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) minimum standards.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Sets up equipment and assists instructors and staff during laboratory activities such as surgery, radiology, clinical pathology, and animal-related labs such as Intro, Canine/Feline, and Large Animal Assisting.
  2. Performs and enters animal treatments into the veterinary technology practice management software and AVMA CVTEA required logs.
  3. Directs and assists students learning how to perform tasks such as animal restraint, obtaining radiographs, preparing animals for surgery, administering anesthesia under the care of a veterinarian, monitoring and caring for animals, and administering prescribed medications.
  4. Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  5. Performs cleanup of labs and clinical areas at the conclusion of labs to be ready for the next laboratory session.
  6. Ensures that the materials in lab, support areas, and clinic are clean, safe, and organized; promotes safe laboratory practices including the implementation of state and federal safety standards (OSHA, USDA, and related standards).
  7. Participates in recruiting activities and promotion of the veterinary technology program.
  8. May proctor exams as assigned or needed for assigned course(s).
