General Statement of Job

Supports student persistence and completion by providing career and transfer services consistent with the Austin Community College (ACC) mission and goals. Working knowledge of the labor market, career and transfer resources, and ACC's programs are applied to support individuals in identifying academic/career pathways and implementing a plan to achieve identified goals.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provides career- and transfer-related services with specialized strategies to help students, alumni, and entering student applicants select a career and/or a academic pathway and implement a plan to achieve their identified goals including graduation, transfer, and/or entering the workforce. Services are delivered by appointment and drop-in as well as to individuals or groups.
  2. Maintains expertise regarding course and ACC program/credential transferability, career and transfer resources, labor market information, special initiatives, and relevant services in order to support students, alumni, prospective students, faculty, and staff to make informed decisions regarding career pathways and corresponding educational options.
  3. Ability to train and support others in use of career and transfer-related technologies.
  4. Applies specialized career coaching expertise to meet the unique needs of identified populations such as veterans, students with disabilities, and individuals with background challenges (incarceration, felony, lengthy employment gaps, etc.), limited career-related awareness, and/or re-careering for various other reasons.
  5. Supports student acquisition of personal effectiveness competencies (soft skills) through individual coaching and workshops.
  6. Assists counselors, as appropriate, by providing students access to career assessment instruments.
  7. Trains and supports the college community in areas related to career and transfer including the use of labor market information, program maps, job-search tools, cover and application letters, networking, resume writing, portfolio development, social media, interviewing, and other applicable areas.
  8. Ensures districtwide consistency of front-line career and transfer services under the guidance of the Career and Transfer Resources directors and their executive dean.
  9. Creates, coordinates, and delivers workshops and presentations aimed at supporting students' career and transfer pathway exploration and attainment.
  10. Supports Career and Transfer Resources team with districtwide and local campus events. Serves as on-campus liaison hosting fairs (exploration, employment, and transfer), recruitment visitors (universities, colleges, employers, and special interest groups such as Chambers of Commerce and professional associations), and other initiatives such as academies (transfer, engineering, etc.).
  11. Supports career-related learning for students participating in volunteer work and various other student employment settings such as internships and student jobs acquired for college persistence purposes.
  12. Assists students with preparation for, and execution of, university transfer and job search.
  13. May help produce, support, maintain, and update webpages and calendar of events, social media, technologies, handouts, fliers, newsletters, brochures, manuals, or other documents and tools necessary to promote and engage others (both internal and external constituents) in career and transfer activities.
  14. Collects data and ensures proper tracking is in place for all initiatives, events, and activities, including data entry for future analysis and district service planning. Reviews evaluations/feedback and makes recommendations for continuous improvement in career and transfer services and resources.
  15. May represent career and/or transfer services on college committees and work groups as assigned by supervisor.
