General Statement of Job

Leads and oversees the effective use of institutional data analytics, including descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive statistics for identifying strategic priorities and determining the effectiveness of student success interventions. . This role is responsible for leading the Analytics unit and establishes policies, procedures, and standards for data analysis based on industry best-practices. The Director of Institutional Analytics is responsible for ensuring technology utilizing student data for frontline staff and college leadership is properly evaluated, validated, and promotes the College's strategic vision.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervises, leads, directs, coaches, mentors, evaluates, and counsels assigned staff while adhering to organizational human resources policies and procedures as well as related employment laws.
  2. Directs, develops, and monitors the day-to-day operations of the Analytics unit. Sets high level priorities and direction for multiple initiatives college-wide.
  3. Provides college-wide leadership and direction in all areas of strategic implementation of analytic reports. Presents leadership with current status of initiatives and progress.
  4. Creates synergistic relationships and a culture that responsibly uses analytics reports in support of data-driven initiatives and strategic goals. Oversees the use of analytical, empirical, and data-informed approaches to planning, problem solving and decision making and promotes a culture that utilizes evidence-based practices across the college.
  5. Oversees relationships with diverse internal and external project stakeholders and third party vendors.
  6. Designs, creates, tests, reviews and maintains complex reports and dashboards for a variety of business use cases utilizing a variety of software (such as SAS, SQL, Excel, DOMO, Informer or other analytics tools). Provide strategic guidance and review of reports, designs, and analysis from other team members.
  7. Remains current on all aspects of institutional research, institutional analytics, and technology innovations; recommends utilization of applications that effectively support student success strategies.
  8. Establishes and interprets historical, current, and projected data to identify operational problems, causes, and identify areas for which procedural or system changes are warranted.
  9. Oversees and manages documentation and procedures related to institutional research projects. 
  10. Leads or serves on various councils and committees within the college to provide data expertise in institutional analytics and institutional research.
