General Statement of Job

Responsible for instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or subject/subjects of the GED (writing skills, social studies, science, language arts, and mathematics) and/or non-credit Career Pathways classes (computer/IT, accounting, and other in-demand occupational areas) and/or substitution of these same classes.

PLEASE NOTE: For FY22, this hourly position may pay between $20.30 - $25.20/hour plus .25 prep.  Rate assigned is dependent on education and experience.  All instructors start in substitute position ($20.30/hr+.25 prep) until offered a class assignment.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Instructs in ESL, and/or subject/subjects of the GED (writing skills, social studies, science, language arts, and mathematics), and/or non-credit Career Pathways classes (computer/IT, accounting, and other in-demand occupational areas).
  2. Prepares student monthly reports.
  3. Maintains student daily records, monitoring, and recording student progress using formal and informal methods.
  4. Participates in mandated teacher training sessions.
  5. Develops classroom environment conducive to optimal student learning with a balance of structure and care.
  6. Completes annual professional development requirements established by the Texas Workforce Commission.
