General Statement of Job

To manage the daily operations of the custodial staff and related vendor services for all Austin Community College campuses and locations.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines reporting personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws.
  2. Supervises the activities of custodial leads and supervisors using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with established guidelines and completes performance evaluations of assigned personnel providing feedback on how employees can improve and grow professionally.
  3. Provides professional and prompt customer service.
  4. Directs the quality control program for custodial services and cleaning systems used at the college optimizing best practices to produce quality completion of work assignments resulting in professional, prompt, satisfactory service to college customers such as employees, students, and guests.
  5. Confirms the quality of custodial services by inspecting the work of custodial personnel, directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary, and periodically survey customers regarding customer satisfaction with services.
  6. Calculates staffing and scheduling needs for the various college locations and determines the best utilization of personnel resources.
  7. Analyzes situations, troubleshoots problems, and makes recommendations to improve efficiency and implement effective, quality solutions, including adjustment of calculations.
  8. Supervises the ordering and stock of cleaning operation supplies and maintenance and repair of related equipment ensuring that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services.
  9. Develops effective and continuous training of custodial staff in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and effective performance, as well as the customer service experience; Assesses, develops, implements, and monitors orientation, training, workshop, and customer service programs for personnel, and may supervise training of a more technical, specialized nature such as OSHA compliance-related topics.
  10. Builds solid, cross-functional, working relationships with others within the college as well as external contacts such as contract agencies.
  11. Provides up-to-date recommendations for operational improvements and reports on status and recommendations to selected members of the management team.
  12. Responsible for budgeting and tracking of related department purchases and expenditures.
  13. Manages any custodial contract relationships and supervises, trains when necessary, and coordinates agency personnel providing related contracted custodial repair-related services for the college.
