General Statement of Job

Serves as Technical Director and Theater Facilities Manager for theater spaces for all Austin Community College (ACC) drama and dance productions.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the theatre facilities and equipment.
  2. Orients users to safety and technical characteristics of theater operations and equipment.
  3. Advises users of the dimensions and specifications of performance space, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for individual shows.
  4. Determines the necessary technical supports for dance and drama events in advance of production dates.
  5. Coordinates the implementation of approved designs for all technical and related areas (i.e., scenic, lighting, sound, media, properties, costume, makeup, etc.)
  6. Assists in recruiting, training, and assigning the technical users and student technicians for individual shows.
  7. Attends technical week rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting show.
  8. Coordinates strike, material storage, waste/recycling, and rental returns.
  9. Maintains inventory and monitors repair/ordering of technical theater equipment and supplies.
  10. Determines costs and purchases/rental of all materials, tools, and equipment that are required to support drama and dance programs; assists with preparation of production budgets; provides work completion and expenditure reports; and assists with monitoring department budget.
