General Statement of Job

Assists the Vice President in providing institutional leadership to develop and maintain high quality, innovative programs, primarily, but not exclusively, in workforce and technical areas. Responsible for leadership and supervision of workforce and continuing education programs. Provides leadership in responding to local workforce education needs and for developing and maintaining relationships with the business sectors of the college service area. Works in concert with the Associate Vice President of Academic Transfer in collegewide planning, coordination, and integration of curriculum.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provides leadership and oversight of college credit workforce courses and programs, supervising, and providing leadership to the deans of workforce program areas.
  2. Provides leadership and oversight of continuing education courses and programs, supervising, and providing leadership to the Dean of Continuing Education.
  3. Provides leadership in curriculum planning, program development and implementation, and program review.
  4. Responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with external business and appropriate community organizations. Serves as institutional liaison to external business and appropriate community organizations.
  5. Provides leadership in planning, budget development, and the creation and assessment of institutional effectiveness measures in all assigned areas.
  6. Helps identify and secure appropriate institutional resources to support professional development of workforce and continuing education faculty and staff.
  7. Supervises assigned staff with the responsibilities of hiring, training, and evaluating these individuals.
  8. Ensures consistency in the delivery of programs and services in all assigned areas across the district.
  9. Analyzes program data and makes recommendations regarding course and program additions/deletions and consolidation, in consultation with instructional deans.
  10. Serves on college shared governance structures and performs other related duties as assigned.
  11. Provides leadership for the following areas of study in implementation of the principles of the Texas Pathways Model: 1) Business; 2) Arts, Digital Media, and Communication; 3) Computer and Information Sciences 4) Culinary, Hospitality, and Tourism 5) Health Sciences; 6) Design, Manufacturing, Construction, and Applied Technologies; 7) Public and Social Services.
  12. Works with college offices to research and apply for federal, state, and local grants as appropriate.
  13. Establishes and conducts meetings each semester of the Business/Industry Council for areas as prioritized by the college and regional workforce planning.
